The weekly awaited update is now underway, welcome to The Road To 0.6 press release. Just as expected todays news will have more content then previous updates! Before we get into todays news updates the FH team would like to announce that we have released our long awaited internal 0.6 beta. Starting tomorrow we (and our fellow beta testers) are going to chew up and spit out every bit of 0.6 and see if it still holds shape. We are going to be debugging, tweaking, modifying, and even adding a few missing things from previous releases. This process could take some time and will be well worth the wait! The next version of Forgotten Hope will be one polished mod, which is proud to have dedicated fans such as yourselves!

Now it's time for the armaments! First on our list we have the German Defense Bunkers. These little babes were used on the coast of Normandy to defend against the allied attacks. Secondly the German Hanomang/Wurfkörper, this is basically an upgraded Hanomang. We did say we have more then two updates, so here it is, the Third German Gewehr 43 Rifle, standard German sniper rifle during ww2. Last but not least we have a historic re skin from the Merciless Creations merger, the German Panther D Eastern Front skin! Check out the detailed information below.

On the Eastern Front the Germans captured many Tokarev 7.62mm SVT38s and '40s self-loading rifles. The Tokarev rifle employed a much simpler but more effective gas-operated mechanism, which was duly copied by the Germans into the Gewehr 41(W). The product was the Gewehr 43. The Gewehr 43 was immediately put into production to replace the Gewehr 41(W). The new model was easier to produce in large quantities and was lighter and easier to reload. As a result it was a popular weapon among the troops. Many short-cuts were incorporated into the manufacturing process. Sometimes wood laminates and plasitc furniture were used. In 1944, a shorter version of the Gewehr 43 was produced, and it was known as the Karabiner 43 even though it was only 50mm shorter.

The Val and Stuka share a number of similarities: both are 2-seaters with fixed forward firing guns and a single flexible rearfiring gun. Also the landing gear is non-retractable. The Val however was carrier based, whereas the Stuka was only landbased. Also did the Stuka have a more powerfull engine, and the typically gull-shaped wings.

Welcome to day 7 of The Road To 0.6 press release. Exactly one week ago we started on our journey on the road to 0.6, since that time we have shown you high quality polished models, and even given you 9 maps to toy with.

Before you check out todays new items, be sure to check out History Is War. This fan made web site allows you to battle it out and develop your character. It is kind of like an RPG for BF1942, it is not a mod and works directly with Forgotten Hope. The only downside is the site is in German, but still worth checking out!

Today we are going to show off two new skins for existing vehicles in Forgotten Hope. First is the American Corsair F4U reskin. Secondly the American F6F Hellcat. Check out these two awesome reskins below!

  INFO:

The Corsair's most unique feature was the "bent" wing, the result of a marriage between the most powerful engine ever installed in a piston-engined fighter at that time, and one of the biggest propellers in the world. The inverted gull wing permitted the short, sturdy undercarriage required for carrier operations, gave the pilot better visibility over the wing and lowered the height of the folded wing. An added asset of the gull wing was a planing action during emergency water landings.

  INFO:

The F6F was ordered for the US Navy after the initial shock of Allied contact with superior Japanese fighters, particularly the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, during the first few months of the Pacific War. As a result of this experience of combat against higher-performance machines the Hellcat's specification required the most powerful engine available. The prototype X6F-1, a progression from the F4F Wildcat which was then the standard fighter of the Navy, was provided with a 1700hp Wright R-2600 engine, but a month later - on 26 June1942 - it was re-engined with a 2000hp Pratt and Whitney R-2800 (the birth of the F6F therefore coinciding almost exactly with the great carrier Battle of Midway, 4-6 June 1942, in which its predecessor - the Grumman F4F Wildcat - played a critical role).

You guessed it! It's day 3 of The Road To 0.6 press release. In todays update we will be showcasing two of the vehicles the Pacific Shores merger has created. What's Pacific Shores you ask? Pacific Shores was a Pacific Theatre only modification that merged with Forgotten Hope exactly one month ago (10/12/03). Todays briefing will include two new vehicles from the pacific theatre. First the Japanese N1K2-J Shinden-KAI (George) and secondly the Japanese Type 95 HA-GO (Light Tank). As you might of guessed both of these vehicles were created by the Japanese imperialist army for use during ww2. Take a look for yourself...

The design engineering team of the Kawanishi Aircraft Co. Ltd. took one of the boldest initiatives ever by the Japanese aircraft industry in December 1941. To take full advantage of the Homare’s projected horsepower output (N1k2-J engine), a four-bladed propeller with a diameter of nearly 11 feet was selected; this, plus the mid-fuselage location of the wings, forced the adoption of main landing-gear legs which had to contract as they retracted into the wheel wells. The Kyofu’s combat flaps were also modified; whereas flap activation was manual on the Kyofu, the flaps were operated automatically on the N1K2-J aircraft. Although the landing gear’s design gave problems from the outset, the prototype was ready just a little over seven months.

The most numerous light tank in December 1941, and in fact throughout most of the war, was the Type 95 or "Ha-Go." The Ha-Go weighed seven and a half tons, and accommodated a crew of three. In the hull the driver and a machine gunner sat side-by-side (if the tank had a radio, which few Japanese vehicles did prior to the end of 1942, at least, the bow machine gunner was also the radio operator). The third man was in the turret, which had a 37mm gun mounted in the front, and the tank's second 7.7mm machinegun in its rear, in a ball mount (hence hand-aimed by the crewman in the turret). The Japanese "Tank Division" was to consist, ideally, of three tank regiments, a motorised infantry brigade (mainly in trucks) of 3,800 men, and a mixed artillery regiment.

HMS Ark Royal, a 22,000-ton aircraft carrier built at Birkenhead, England, was completed in November 1938. After working-up during the months prior to the September 1939 outbreak of hostilities, she played an important role in the first two years of the Second World War. In December 1939 she was sent to the South Atlantic to help in the search for the German cruiser Admiral Graf Spee. The spring of 1940 saw her participating in the Norwegian campaign, and in July she was one of the ships that attacked the French Navy's base at Mers-el-Kebir, Algeria. The following September, Ark Royal took part in a second assault on the French Navy, this time at Dakar. While covering a Mediterranean convoy in late November, her planes attacked Italian battleships, though without making any hits. In return, she was bombed, and missed, by enemy aircraft.

Though its service ceiling was 19,800 feet, the Marauder’s primary role was close tactical ground support. As such, it was widely used in the Pacific theater and the Mediterranean by both the USAAC and the RAF, which had acquired 522 B-26’s under Lend-Lease.

The original GMC 2.5-ton 6x6 was the ACKW(X)-353 six-wheel drive commercial truck (1939-1941) which was also ordered by the French government.

Mass production of the military type started in 1941, and it quickly became the most widely used tactical transport vehicle of the US armed forces of World-War 2. International Harvester produced a very similar vehicle for the US Navy and Marines, and more than half of the 197,000 units produce by Studebaker went to the Soviet Army. The 2.5-ton truck was available with a hard or soft cab, with or without winch. The soft cab version eventually became the military standard, and many of the existing hard cabs were later converted.
